Kids Painting Ideas


Kids Painting Crafts is a perfect make and take craft.




Description

Tailor it to your theme by changing the main subject and then tailor it to the age group. Find an online printable picture of your theme and xerox it onto construction paper.

Use paints, glitters, construction paper cut outs and small embellishments like buttons, pom poms, silk flowers, small pebbles, sand or beads and wiggly eyes.










Materials

  • Construction Paper

  • Elmer's Glue

  • Aleene's Tacky Glue for embellishments like pebbles, shells, etc.

  • Tempera Paint

  • Glitter Paint or Glitter Glue

  • Paint Brushes, muffin tin or Spill Proof Paint Cups , and container for water

    • Cut Outs and Paint

    This was done at an birthday party hosted at an Art Center but it is one that can be done easily at a home hosted party. Perfect for all ages too.

    Pre-cut fish were ready to be glued on with a glue stick after the child painted the "ocean". Then fine silver glitter was sprinkled while the paint was wet to give a shimmery effect.

    Approximately 15 minutes drying time.









    Painting a Picture with Embellishments

    Draw and print copies of a dinosaur for young children to paint or have each child draw their own. Have models or books for children to look at so they can draw their dinosaur. This kids painting idea is greatt for ages 3 and up. If you are using small objects to glue, make sure to have adequate supervision. Green Glitter Paint was used for this activity.

    Small pebbles were glued on using craft glue. Aleene's has a quick dry glue that works well for these type of projects.

    Approximately 15 minutes drying time.






    Tips

      For Young Children

    1. Have all items ready to use. Cut out shapes, pour paint into muffin tins or palette. Use Glue stick to glue construction pieces down.

    2. Small groups are best when using paint. Depending on number of parents helping, determine size of group.

    Resources

  • Google "free printable characters" to find pictures to match specific themes like Hello Kitty, Spongebob, Tinkerbell, Spiderman etc.

  • Google "free printable ____ " for cats, dogs, and other animal themes.

  • Tempera Paint and Glitter Paint: Michaels and other craft stores, WalMart, Target

  • Construction Paper: WalMart, Target, Craft stores, Costco

  • Small embellishments: Same as above and Dollar Tree

  • Non spill paint cups can be found at Amazon and school supply stores like Lakeshore. These are great if you do lots of painting at home with your child.

  • Reuse a Cool Whip container for holding water to rinse brushes.
