My Lion King Cake

My Lion King Cake

My son is probably the biggest “Lion King” fan. He is 6 years old, soon to be 7, and wears his Lion King costume around our house all day long. I wanted to surprise him by having a party with his classmates which will be Lion King themed.

The cake I made was the face of a lion. It had a yellow cake (box mix) inside of it. The decorating didn’t take long and was easy to do, this way I was able to focus on what games I wanted to have setup for the kids to play.

As hard as I thought it would be, I brought it back to basics. We had a Lion King Piñata, and a “Pin the Tail on the Lion”. The kids loved both of these ideas! The piñata game was a little difficult. We had to make sure all the kids were not swinging all at once while letting everyone get a try without breaking it. However, the pin the tail on the lion game was a blast. The kids loved it and since my son has a couple “class clowns” in his class, they kept the group laughing. Overall it was a great experience.

It’s amazing how fast they grow up. I had four other parent chaperones (two couples) and my wife and I to handle the kids, about 20 of them, at the event. My son said it was his favorite party yet.

We served little cocktail wienies, punch and different fruit juices, hot dogs, and the cake, along with fresh fruit and veggies on separate plates, and a small bag of chips for each of the kids.

I bought all of my items at Walmart and everything turned out to be not too expensive. My idea, as I mentioned, came from my son. He had a great time, and I’m sure any super hero or movie character themed party would be great for any kid 5-7 years old.
